Reflection 1

My writing has evolved a lot over the past 5-6 years. In middle school I don’t remember writing very much, but when I entered high school I had to write a lot of papers. I remember one teacher, in particular, who really got us into writing and learning the process of writing a paper. This is when my writing really began to evolve. In high school I really got the chance to explore topics that I enjoy, which made me want to write. I learned the correct format for writing and how to get my point across. I can now put together a paper pretty easily, where as before now I would have to do lots and lots of revising. I have learned how to get my thoughts out and write them down and put them into a cohesive order to get my point across. As I get older I am more able to look at the entire paper and really get my papers to make sense to the reader. When I was younger I don’t think I was able to get my words to flow as easily or to make as much sense. I also elaborate more now and have more of an opinion on what I am writing. I strongly think that just being older and reading more has helped me in my own writing.  I have also realized that I do not like writing research papers. I would much rather write an argument piece or just write on a topic that interests me. I have a lot more to say than I used to and I like to write down my thoughts and feelings. Where as in high school we were given the topic, and we had to spend hours researching that topic just to be able to write something about it. Overall, I think that the biggest change in my writing is that I actually enjoy it now and I think that comes across in my papers.

  1. Hi Lauren,
Isn’t it fun not just having to spit out research and hope our professor agrees with us so we get an A? I to am enjoying this type of writing so much better then the research papers I wrote in college version 1.0. Grant it, I wouldn’t write like I do now with out that training, but getting to express my opinion and write about something I am passionate is a lot more fun. I’m so glad you found a passion for writing and didn’t let the boring writing overshadow the enjoyable writing. Keep it up and I look forward to reading further essays from you.
